Water erosion is primarily responsible for these smooth and swirling shapes in lower antelope canyon. Thunderstorms as far away as 50 miles will cause the canyon to flood in a few minutes with water levels greater than 20 feet deep and traveling at excessive speeds. DO NOT venture into slot canyons if there is rain forcasted in the area. Several people have perished in flooded slot canyons.
